Have you ever been so tired that you really start believe you may fall asleep in the middle of a conversation, face down in your food? Well, this day in Singapore we had gone around shooting… I think by my count 8?... different webisodes and although they were all fun and interesting (frog farming, goat milking, aeroponics, graffiti art, break dancing etc…) I was running on empty. While the shot was being set up for my interview with the band Wicked Aura Batukara, I was sitting on this little red stool. Let me tell you, this stool was the most beautiful thing I had ever experienced!!!

Amoeba, You-moeba

The current webisode at Amoeba Music reminds me of my first experience with the greatest independent record stores in world. Unlike many music retailers here in the States, Amoeba Music remains in business in the face of dropping album sales and increased digital music purchase. It is an open vibrant epicenter for both the music dork and casual listener alike. I remember this one day, my mom just came back from a trip to San Francisco and in usual fashion, she got me a shirt 2 sizes too large. It was sky blue and had a bright red and yellow “Amoeba” splashed across the front. Boy was it ugly.

Bom Bada Bom

One of my earliest memories as a kid is that around 8:30pm, after dinner, my parents and grandparents would put in a VHS tape of Korean musical showcases. The shows would usually start with a chorus of people singing…I don’t know what… but what I do know is that I would be swaying and clapping and making up my own words to the song. As I grew older, I would usually go to the other room when it was “Korean Music Show time”, but through the walls, I could still hear the melody and rhythm of that kickoff song.
